Mountain Retreat
Residential by Hance ConstructionHance Construction
Nestled in the Sourland Mountains of Central New Jersey, the homeowner came to Hance wanting a contemporary ranch on a mountainous, heavily wooded site. The property required a significant amount of groundwork, including use of a hydraulic hammer to prepare the foundation and installation of a raised bed system for the septic because of high ground water. We also faced limitations because the property was a highly-regulated, low environmental impact area, which allowed only a small amount of clearing on site in which to maneuver our vehicles.

- Our client had a technologically advanced, green mindset, so Hance tailored construction services to achieve sustainability.
While initial site challenges were certainly a huge part of this project, the most important request of the homeowner was making this home technologically and environmentally advanced. With this is in mind, we included cutting edge features and applied techniques such as:
- Using premium, natural materials (maple floors, solid wood cabinets and tiles) to avoid “off-gassing” of lesser materials containing formaldehyde and other chemicals
- A 9.45 kW (peak DC) rated roof-mounted photovoltaic power system
- A radiant heat floor to eliminate unsightly baseboards and vents, create less dust and provide even, silent operation
- Sophisticated alarm and data system with “smart house” features
